Chakras are energy centres; universal life force is transmitted and channelled through these centres. The chakras resonate at different frequencies and certain colours are linked with each chakra. Crystals are a very good tool to help harmonize and balance the chakras. We have many chakras but to keep things simple listed below are the seven main chakras. The crystals that are listed with each chakra are good for helping to balance the chakra, why not have a go, relax and place one of the crystals on a specific chakra for fifteen minutes and see if you feel a difference in your mood or energy.

Positioned between your legs. Place crystals either side at top of the legs(ovary area)

The base chakra holds the lowest vibration of all the chakras, resonating to the colour red. I find colours such as brown, black and dark green are also good to use with this chakra. If the energy in this chakra is too wizzy(too open) the person can show signs of expressing bullying, over materialistic and self centred. They can come across as too full on and it would be a good idea if they stayed away from colours such as red until they felt calmer and not so hot in their manner and mood. If the energy is blocked or sticky in this chakra the person can seem to be emotionally needy, have low self esteem, fearful and sometimes may show signs of destructive behaviour. If this chakra is balanced the person has high physical energy, is grounded and healthy.

Crystals for the base chakra.

Red jasper...warrior determination, strengthening from the roots

Red coral...helping to secure your roots so that you feel less wobbly and strong on moving forward in a new situation.

Mahogany obsidian...helping to gently ground, connecting you back to earth, the energy can seem quite primal and increase sexual desire.

Hematite...strengthens the will, grounding, encourages the ability to survive bringing an inner sense that things will get better.

Smoky quartz...grounding, soft and feminine. It is a gentle grounding stone and good at absorbing negativity. If you are feeling like you have had enough and can't take any more then use this crystal to draw off excess negativity and calm your mood.

Positioned just below the belly button (womb area)

The 2nd or sacral chakra is linked with feelings of nurture, receptivity and emotions. This is where we store hurts, annoyances and anger. We sometimes feel we are not able to express our feelings and this is the chakra where we shut the feelings away. The 2nd chakra resonates to the colour orange.

If this chakra is too wizzy (open) the person can feel emotionally unbalanced and possibly push to get their own way with things. If this chakra is too sticky or blocked the person can be over sensitive, hard on him or herself and may feel guilty for no reason. If the chakra is balanced the person will be trusting, expressive, creative and in tune with his or her own feelings.

Crystals for the 2nd chakra.

Carnelian...motivating and practical

Amber...its energy creates flow allowing us to express old and buried emotions held within the 2nd chakra. Warm and soothing.

Rhodocrosite...soothing and supportive to the self. Improving what you feel about yourself, self love, self esteem.

Sunstone...masculine energy, full of positivity and warming strength. Lifting the emotions, helps you to feel happier.

Orange calcite, golden calcite,orange selenite, moonstone, smoky quartz, rhodonite.

Positioned at the solar plexus, under the rib cage.

The 3rd chakra is linked with the relationship we have with ourselves, our self esteem, our confidence, our zest for who we are and what we would like to accomplish. The associated colour is yellow. I also feel this chakra carries hope, a feeling that things will be bright, positive and happy. If this chakra is too wizzy the person can show outbursts of anger, be controlling, workaholic, judgemental and superior. If the energy in this chakra feels blocked or sticky the person can feel overly concerned with what others think, fearful of being alone, insecure and needing reassurance. If the chakra is balanced the person has respect for themselves and others, has personal power and can be confident and spontaneous.

Crystals for the 3rd chakra..

Citrine...mood lifting, positive, energising and mentally alerting. Good to have on you if you have an exam to take, revision or needing your mind to be on the ball.

Golden calcite... highly energising

Sunstone... brings in positivity, confidence and personal power.

Clear quartz...a good all round energising crystal.

Tigers eye (golden)...energising with masculine energy. Strong, confident and full of power.

Other crystals...

Topaz, lemon calcite, Siberian quartz (yellow), rhodocrosite, Herkimer diamond (increasing hope).

Positioned at the heart.

Through this chakra we relate compassionately and unconditionally with others, with love. The associated colours for this chakra are green and pink. If the heart chakra is too wizzy the person can be possessive, loves with conditions, overly dramatic. If this chakra is sticky or blocked the person could feel unworthy to receive love, fear rejection, intense love in a relationship (holding on for dear life) and self pitying. If this chakra is balanced the person is compassionate, loves unconditionally and is nurturing.

Crystals for the 4th chakra.

Rose quartz...a soft and loving energy, helps to shift emotional blockages with support. Loving and gentle flow, nice to give as a gift.

Malachite... aids the heart chakra in relating to the 3rd chakra. It acts as a bridge, bringing our desires and hopes to fruition with compassion, love and thought for others along the way.

Rhodocrosite...supportive and comforting energy, helping us to take more care of ourselves. Bringing a fuller awareness to who we are and what we are wanting.

Danburite...connecting on deep levels of the heart, helping us to be more of who we truly are. Bringing in a true sense of the real person in a subtle but strong way. Feeling more of what we want to do from the heart.

Rhodonite, pink tourmaline, watermelon tourmaline, kunzite, morganite, dioptase, aventurine, jade, pink opal, emerald, amazonite, prehnite, pink calcite.

Positioned at the throat.

The throat chakra is where we communicate from, express our creativity and our emotions honestly. To keep the throat chakra balanced it is important to continually express and communicate in an honest and understanding manner. The associated colour for the throat chakra is blue. This can range from a turquoise blue to a darker blue like the crystal sodalite.

If the energy in this chakra is too wizzy the person can appear to be over talkative, self righteous and arrogant. If the energy in this chakra is too sticky or blocked the person may hold back from self expression, unreliable and possibly hold inconsistent views. If the 5 th (throat chakra) is balanced the person is a good communicator, contented, finds it easy to meditate and artistically inspired.

Crystals for the throat/5th chakra.

Turquoise...brings out your creativity, brings inner calm but allowing us to be wide awake for ideas and creativity to flow.

Aquamarine...soothing and calming to the emotions and throat. Brings light heartedness and a relaxed flow.

Sodalite...communicating on a deep level, helping us to remain true to ourselves. Cooling to the throat chakra.

Apatite... good to use if you have a head cold and congested chest. Works at clearing the energies in the nose and chest area.

Chrysocolla...a wonderful feminine energy connecting you to your feminine side, soft and girly it brings forth the true power of the person. Communicating with grace, truth, confidence and clarity.

Other crystals...

Blue calcite, blue topaz, blue chalcedony, iolite, azurite, dumorteirite, clear blue obsidian, sapphire.

Positioned above and between the eyebrows.

This chakra is all about our inner knowing, our psychic centre. The wisdom of the third eye cannot be heard unless the chaos of everyday life is stilled. This is why when we meditate it enables us to connect on a deep level with ourselves, helping us to listen to the voice inside (our intuition).The colour associated with this chakra is dark blue/indigo. If this chakra is too open the person can be highly logical, dogmatic, authoritarian and arrogant. If the energy in this chakra is too sticky or blocked the person can be undisciplined, fears success and has a tendency to set their sights too low. If the 6 th chakra is balanced the person can be highly intuitive, not attached to material things and may experience unusual phenomena.

Crystals for the 6th chakra.

Amethyst...connects us to higher, universal energies. Encourages constant spiritual wakefulness.

Fluorite...helps us be our true spiritual selves. Good for breaking down old mental patterns bringing in flexibility.

Lapis lazuli...expansive to the mind, good to meditate with. Mentally helps us to face the truth in whatever situation.

Azurite, diamond, rutilated quartz, Herkimer diamond, larimar, petalite.

Positioned a few inches above the top of the head.

The crown chakra connects us to all that is. It enables us to feel at one with the universe, understanding that there is more to this life than just what we see, feel and touch. We feel lifted and inspired when we are connected to the universe. If the energy in this chakra is too wizzy (open) the person can be a manic depressive and have a sense of unrealized power. If this chakra is sticky or blocked the person can be constantly exhausted, unable to make decisions and could have no sense of belonging. If this chakra is balanced the person may have a magnetic personality, seems to achieve all that they set out to do and are at peace with themselves, accepting and balanced.
